Thanks a Latte: 5 Lessons 10 Years After My First Kiss

I’ve made a commitment to myself (and to any readers that are out there… are you out there?) that I would blog at least once per week. I’ve been doing better than okay since I started but found myself stumped this week for something to write about. Then it hit me: I realized it’s been almost exactly 10 years – yes, an entire decade – since my first real sloppy make out kiss. God, I’m such a romantic.

Over the years, I’ve come a long way from that semi-tragic night down a dark alley on the streets of Nyack, NY when 16 year-old me let a 24 year-old (supposed) dream boat ram his tongue down my throat (actually, looking back, that probably shaped a lot of experiences I’ve had with men over the years. Hmmm… something for the therapist’s chair). Hopefully, I’ve come out of the last decade better prepared for the next ten years. I figure now is as good a time as any to reflect on all those boys that came after Mr. 24-Year-Old-Starbucks-Employee and what I coulda/shoulda/woulda learned all those years ago. The Only 4 Dates You’ll Ever Go On

As I turn my head and look backwards, I see the early days of my twenties when I was running around in togas and saran wrap (yeah, I had a good time in college) and the most romantic thing that happened was when a guy washed off the ping pong ball before sinking the next shot. I mean really, if that doesn’t make you swoon, I don’t know what will.

Now that I’m officially in my “mid-to-late twenties” I actually have to start dating. Awkward conversations; leaving dinners hungry because you can’t chow down on tots and cupcakes (I have a very sophisticated palette); worrying about your outfit, your hair, and if your shoes leave you a respectable number of inches shorter than your date – it’s exhausting. So between me, my friends and friends of friends; I’ve collected lots of dating stories and have realized you’re probably only going to go on 4 types of dates. So prepare yourself… here’s how I break it down: Read the rest of this entry

An F’in Weekend

I love when you have a good week that’s capped off by an amazing weekend. And that’s what this week/ weekend was all about. After an incredibly successful Likeable U (including client day, Dave Kerpen‘s book launch party, and other bits of awesomeness), I had a packed weekend which involved celebrating not one but two birthdays. As I sit back and reflect on another weekend over and done with, I see a common thread emerge in this weekend’s success story. Today’s blog is brought to you by the letter “F” – behold:

Friends: Because of our  insane lives, travel schedules, and varying social calendars, it’s been WEEKS since I’ve hit the town with my friends here in NYC. It was a long time coming, and we had a special occasion to celebrate: a 26th birthday. Not to be outdone by the events that unfolded during my 3-day birthday extravaganza (which may literally be the last time we all went out together), Beryl’s birthday involved a swanky rooftop, Grey Goose bottle service, an epic dance party and what can only be categorized as Geneseo/IB-like shenanigans. I also may or may not have yelled at a bartender for not serving the Patron chilled. I mean, really… Read the rest of this entry

The Essential NYC Summer Guide

Much as we think it won’t happen (do you remember all the snow this winter??), every year summer hits NYC – and hits it hard. This week was particularly hard-hitting in the weather department. Hazy, hot and humid… all amplified by not having AC in the office for two full days. I found myself wishing it was September instead of June and that summer was almost over. But then I mentally slapped myself for that delusional thinking. Sub-zero temps, inches upon inches of snow – no way. So I decided to compile a list of things every NYC girl needs to have in her bag, on her body, and as her state of mind during the summer months ahead. Read the rest of this entry
